Notable for her voice acting roles in anime series such as Fullmetal Alchemist, Tokyo Ghoul, Gintama, and Shakugan no Shana, Kugimiya received a Seiyu Best Actress Award for her performance in Toradora!
She began her voice acting career in the late 1990s, when she was in her late teens and early twenties.
A singer as well as a voice actress, she released a 2012 album titled Kokohadoko.
She was born and raised in Kumamoto, Kumamoto, Japan.
She and fellow voice actress Yui Horie recorded a track titled "Orange" together; the single served as the theme song of the anime series Toradora!
