Robin McKinley
ABOUT ROBIN MCKINLEY
Acclaimed writer of children's literature and fantasy fiction. Her best-known works include Sunshine, The Blue Sword and the Newbery Medal-winning book The Hero and the Crown.
She studied at Dickinson College in Pennsylvania before graduating from Bowdoin College in Maine.
Many of her fantasy novels, including Beauty: A Retelling of the Story of Beauty and the Beast, are feminist re-workings of popular fairy tales.
She grew up in Ohio as the daughter of a United States Navy officer and a school teacher. She later moved to England with her husband and fellow author Peter Dickinson .
She and literary contemporary Cynthia Rylant were both recipients of the prestigious Newbery Medal for children's literature.
