TV executive who invented Monday Night Football, ABC World News, Primetime, and several other long-running network programs.

He played baseball and wrestled for his high school team on Long Island.

He was usually thought of as a sports-broadcasting pioneer. However, he was chairman of ABC News for over 20 years.

He had four children from his first marriage. He left his wife during a vacation in Hawaii to broadcast a football game.

He was friends with Curt Gowdy .
