ABOUT ROONEY SIMMONDS

Generally known by the mononym Rooney, he is an illustrator with an Insta-handle of heyrooney who used his artwork to explore queer culture. He started off by posting typography and hand lettering before finding his calling as an illustrator in the subcategory of "Bubblegum Fem."

Art became his favorite school subject in kindergarten. He grew up in a Mormon family and attended a Mormon-owned private school. He then studied graphic design and illustration in college.

He spent two years in South Africa beginning at the age of 19 as part of a mission there to preach.

His real name is Andy Simmonds. He is a native of Salt Lake City, Utah. His sister gave him the nickname of Rooney.

He often draws illustrations of people, one of which was of Shea Couleé .
