He calls his followers Berridos. His named was created when a girl in school called him "Dutty Berry," dutty being a slang term for "dirty."

His parents separated when he was young, but both remained in his life. They wanted him to be a doctor, but he found his calling in entertainment.

He's most famous for his commentary of Season 5 of The Voice, specifically contestant Tessane Chin .
