ABOUT RUTH PITTER
British poet who is known for a 1936 work entitled A Trophy of Arms. She was the first woman to receive the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry.
She worked at the British War Office early in her life and was also employed by a Suffolk furniture company.
Her work, though written in the 1900s, relied upon rules of rhyme and meter that had been established in the previous century.
Her parents, George Pitter and Louisa Murrell Pitter, were both teachers.
She was a close friend of author C.S. Lewis .
