Soul and R&B tenor who sang with the vocal duo Sam & Dave and was a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 1992. The live version of his song "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" has earned over 15 million streams on Spotify.
He first discovered his singing talents through the gospel genre. He and Dave Prater , the other half of Sam & Dave, met in 1961.
With the help of his wife, he overcame his drug addiction. In 2006, he released his well-known solo album, Overnight Sensational.
He married Joyce Ann Parker on October 22, 1955.
