He joined EastEnders when the soap was under criticism for relying on staid characters; but his recruitment caused another controversy, as he he was poached from The Bill.
He married his longtime girlfriend Estelle Rubio in 2008. The couple has a son named Zak Alexander.
Samantha Womack , his co-star on EastEnders, was his best friend since their teenage years together.
