He began singing, writing, and performing as a child. His mother would take him to church, where he became inspired by congregation music.
He was discovered after he posted videos online. On TikTok, he posts covers of many popular songs. His YouTube video "Sekou - Better Man" has garnered more than 280,000 views in total. Aside from traditional video content, he has also posted YouTube shorts.
His song "Better Man" was written about his difficult relationship with his father growing up.
He caught the attention of music producer Quincy Jones , who sent him a message of praise on Instagram.
