Sheila Oliver

ABOUT SHEILA OLIVER

American politician who became the second lieutenant governor of New Jersey from 2018 until her passing in 2023. She made history as the first Black woman to hold the position. Prior to becoming lieutenant governor, she served as a member of the New Jersey General Assembly from 2004 to 2018, representing the 34th Legislative District.

In 1974, she graduated cum laude with a B.A. in sociology from Lincoln University.

During the 1990s, she served on the Board of Education of the East Orange School District and eventually assumed the role of the district's president.

She was born and raised in New Jersey. She never married.

She was preceded by Kim Guadagno .
