ABOUT SHELBY HEARON
A twentieth-century American novelist, she is best known for such works as Armadillo in the Grass and Owning Jolene. The latter work won an American Academy of Arts and Letters Literature Award.
She studied at the University of Texas at Austin. She began writing her debut novel, Armadillo in the Grass, in 1962.
She was awarded an Ingram Merrill Foundation fiction fellowship.
She was born and raised in Kentucky.
She and Kim Addonizio were both Guggenheim Fellowship recipients.
