ABOUT SILK SMITHA
Remembered for her roles in numerous Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, and Telugu films, this Indian actress is particularly notable for her portrayal of Silk in the 1979 movie Vandichakkaram. After appearing in this film, the actress previously known as Vijayalakshmi adopted the stage name of Silk Smitha.
She entered the entertainment industry as a makeup artist but began performing after being mentored by actor and director Vinu Chakravarthy.
She earned critical acclaim for her performance in the 1981 movie Alaigal Oyivathillai.
The daughter of Sarasamma and Ramallu, she spent her youth in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, India. Tragically, she committed suicide at the age of thirty-five.
She co-starred with Kamal Haasan in the acclaimed 1982 Tamil film Moondram Pirai.
