Subhash Mukhopadhyay
ABOUT SUBHASH MUKHOPADHYAY
Twentieth-century poet who revolutionized modern Bengali poetry with a debut collection entitled Padatik (The Foot Soldier).
He graduated with honors from the Scottish Church College in Calcutta, where he studied philosophy.
He was the recipient of India's two most prestigious literary honors: the Sahitya Akademi Award (1964) and the Jnanpith Award (1991).
He married fellow writer Gita Bandyopadhyay. The couple adopted three daughters.
He and iconic film director Satyajit Ray co-edited a children's magazine called Sandesh for several years.
