Surat Huseynov

ABOUT SURAT HUSEYNOV

Former colonel who served as the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan in 1993 before he was imprisoned for trying to topple the President. He was pardoned in 2004.

He gained fame for his military leadership during the Nagorno-Karabakh War.

He led a coup against the Azerbaijani government in protest of the country's international oil consortium AIOC.

He and his wife have two children.

He was pardoned and released from his life sentence by President Ilham Aliyev .
