She began her career as a novelist by writing installments of Bantam Books' Loveswept romance series. She published her first standalone novel, McKnight in Shining Armor, in 1988.
She competed in professional equestrian tournaments.
She was born in Iowa and raised in Minnesota. She married Daniel Hoag in 1977.
Actor Harry Hamlin starred in a television miniseries based on on Hoag's novel Night Sins.
