ABOUT TED NOLAN

Hockey coach and former player best known for coaching the Buffalo Sabres and the Latvia men's national team. He had a nine-year career as a professional player, playing for the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL.

He was born in Garden River, Ontario and is a member of the First Nations tribe known as the Ojibwe.

He was given the Jack Adams Award for coaching for the 1996-97 season as head coach of the Sabres.

His sons, Brandon and Jordan, have both played in the NHL. Jordan Nolan has won Stanley Cups as a member of the Los Angeles Kings.

He coached goaltender Dominik Hasek as head coach of the Sabres.
