ABOUT THOM GUNN
British-American poet who is best known for a 1992 AIDS-themed work entitled The Man with Night Sweats.
He was the son of two journalists; his mother committed suicide when he was a teenager.
He lived a bohemian lifestyle in San Francisco and died of substance abuse in 2004.
He moved to the United States in 1954 to be near Mike Kitay, his longtime partner.
He and Adrienne Rich both received the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize in the early 1990s.
