ABOUT THOMAS BEER

Biographer best known for his biographies of people like Stephen Crane and Mark Hanna . He is also published a short story collection "Mrs. Egg and Other Barbarians" and three novels.

He studied law at Columbia University and served in World War I.

Though most famous for being a biographer, he had more than 130 short stories published in The Saturday Evening Post.

He was never married and is widely thought to have been homosexual.

He was close friends with Heart of Darkness author Joseph Conrad .
