ABOUT TITO RODRIGUEZ

Pablo Rodríguez Lozada, known famously as Tito Rodríguez, was a Puerto Rican singer. He sang boleros, sones, guarachas and pachangas during the popumambo and cha-cha-cha dance craze in the 1950's.

Growing up he was interested in becoming a horse jockey. Before he had a music career of his own, he played as a percussionist in rhumba ensembles in New York City.

His nickname was "El Inolvidable" (The Unforgettable One) which came from the title of his most popular song.

His father José was from Puerto Rico and his mother Severina was from Cuba. His older brother Johnny inspired him to become a musician. He married Tobi Kei, a girl he met while performing.

He joined Xavier Cugat 's band in 1942 and recorded the songs Bim, bam, bum" and "Ensalada de congas".
