Early in her career, she appeared on a radio program and in numerous stage productions.

She played Padme Amidala's mother in Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

She married her third husband, Peter Field, in 1985. The couple later divorced.

She co-starred with Tim Conway in the 1980 film The Private Eyes.
