ABOUT TYLER BENNETT

American Paralympic soccer player from Akron, Ohio who won a silver medal in 2010 at the 2010 FIBA Americas Championship and gold medal at the 2016 Summer Paralympics.

At age 12, he was stricken with a sudden, sharp pain that shot down his back; an artery in his brain had ruptured. After multiple surgeries, he was able to play competitive soccer again. He participated in tournaments with the U.S. Paralympic National Soccer Team before graduating from Wadsworth High School.

He first attended the University of Akron before transferring to a program at Clemson University that allowed him to go to school while still training for the Paralympics. He was the first athlete ever to receive an academic Paralympic soccer scholarship.

He was born and raised in Wadsworth, Ohio. He has a sister Jordan, who works as an insurance agent in Wadsworth.

Fellow soccer player and Paralympian Nick Mayhugh represented the U.S. at the 2020 Summer Paralympics.
