He was originally signed by the Chicago Blackhawks but never played a game for them before moving to New York.
He captained the New York Rangers from 1971 to 1974.
His younger brother Carl Hadfield also played hockey.
He played in the 1972 NHL All Star Game alongside fellow Ranger Rod Gilbert .
