He decided to go into the technology field after reading about the founding of Intel when he was 14.
He was a big proponent of alternative energy and invested heavily in ethanol makers. After his entrepreneurial career he became an investor and was one of the early investors in Sam Altman 's OpenAI.
His father, an officer in the Indian Army, had a permanent post in New Delhi, India.
His venture capital firm backed several successful tech startups, including one bought by Bill Gates and Microsoft.
