American singer who gained fame as a member of the Motown girl group The Marvelettes, known for hit singles like "Please Mr. Postman" and "Don't Mess with Bill." She passed away in December 2021 at the age of 78.
She originally aspired to be a nurse but turned to music after the founder of The Marvelettes, Gladys Horton , asked her to audition for a spot in the group.
The Marvelettes' single "Please Mr. Postman" was Motown's first number one hit.
She was married to singer Bobby Rogers from 1963 to 1975.
She performed alongside Katherine Anderson in The Marvelettes.
