ABOUT WILFRID SHEED
A British-born essayist and novelist, he won a Grammy award for his album notes for Frank Sinatra's recording, The Voice - The Columbia Years 1943-1952. His novel, Office Politics, was a 1967 finalist for the National Book Award for Fiction.
He grew up in England, as well as in the United States, and he attended Downside School in his youth. He later studied at Lincoln College, Oxford, where he earned his BA in 1954 and his MA in 1957.
He is an American novelist famous for his book, The House that George Built.
His 1985 biography, Frank and Maisie, details his parents' involvement in literary and intellectual circles. He had three children with his first wife, Maria Bullitt Darlington; in 1972, he married second wife, Miriam Ungerer.
