Xavier Gipson
ABOUT XAVIER GIPSON
Professional football player who became a wide receiver for the National Football League's New York Jets in 2023. Prior to that, he played on a collegiate level for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks and was named to the second and first team All-Southland Conference during his freshman and sophomore seasons, respectively. He was also twice named Offensive Player of the Year of the Western Athletic Conference as a junior and again as a senior.
He played high school football as a four-year starter at cornerback, and later as a wide receiver for Woodrow Wilson High School. Although he later opted to play offense for Stephen F. Austin State University , he was initially recruited as a cornerback for the Southern Methodist University .
He was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week after his first NFL career game, a week one matchup against the Buffalo Bills . He became the first player to record a punt-return touchdown in the league since 2011 after returning a 65-yard punt to score the game-winning touchdown.
He is the son of Shametlea Britt and Stacey Gipson. His half-brother Montre Gipson signed with the KK Gostivar of the Macedonian Basketball League after earning a master's degree from the University of North Carolina .
He was named to the New York Jets 2023 roster along with quarterback Tim Boyle , offensive lineman Duane Brown , and tight end Jeremy Ruckert .
