Japanese actress who rose to fame after appearing in the 1997 drama film Lost Paradise. She won the praise of critics for her award-winning performance in the 2010 psychological thriller film Confessions. As a voice actress, she has played characters for the Japanese dubs of notable films like Kung Fu Panda , Jurassic World , and Turning Red .
She studied English Literature at Seijo University.
She was named Newcomer of the Year at the 42nd Elan d'or Awards. She auditioned for the main role in 2005's Memoirs of a Geisha . However, she was passed over in favor of Zhang Ziyi .
She and actor Noriyuki Higashiyama tied the knot in the year 2010.
She and Takako Matsu shared the screen in Confessions.
